DESCRIPTION

My coloring varies tremendously: usually brown or beige, I can also be yellow, reddish, greenish or almost black. What people take for "warts" are actually toxin glands, the two largest of which are located just behind the eyes.

Among individuals in my species males are smaller than females. The mating season takes place in spring at which time you can hear my call near ponds where we get together. Many of us back go back to the same nesting site each year!

We are very common in Québec and in the Maritimes as we adapt well to changes in habitat, nesting even in artificial ponds.
