DESCRIPTION

As my name suggests, I am dark with blue flecks that are generally concentrated on the my flanks. I am pretty stocky, with a broad rounded head. My legs are massive, and my tail is a bit compressed on the side.

In early spring, even if some snow remains, the adults will migrate to breeding sites such as temporary ponds, ditches and along some lakes.

Although we are very common in the Maritimes and Québec, our distribution is rather uneven. In Québec, we are particularly abundant in some areas of the Saint-Lawrence Valley.
