Although unpopular among anglers of Québec, I am still sought for my combative nature and the quality of my flesh. To recognize me you must first know that I am the largest of the Ictaluridae, that is my family of fish. My color varies from pale grey to blueish grey.
We breed in late spring and early summer. Although females lay the eggs, the males will watch over them before and after hatching. The young will then head for deep water for their growth.
Although we are a common species in Québec, we are rarely seen as we prefer deep waters.
