DESCRIPTION

Our coloring makes us easy to recognize: our back is greenish, usually decorated with black-ringed red spots, and our yellow belly is speckled with small black dots. As adults, we are usually aquatic, but some of us can adopt a terrestrial way of life.

Our love rituals are quite particular: the courtship is very complex and takes place under water. A dance called "hula" involves waving the body and tail. Our breeding period runs from the spring to early summer.

Although we are present in Québec and in the Maritimes, our distribution is rather sporadic in some areas.
