DESCRIPTION

Although I bear the name Red Fox, my fur may also be silver, black or even striped. Whichever color I am, the tip of my tail is always white.

I tend to hang out around hen houses and have been wrongly accused of stealing chickens. In fact, I am very useful because I eat so many small rodents like mice and rats. When food is plentiful, I hide it for later use. I have an excellent memory for finding these treasures again. Clever as a fox…

Generally I live alone but, in January, I find a mate with whom I stay until our young are raised. The female stays in the den taking care of the young who are blind and defenseless at birth. The kits are very precocious and they head off on their own when they are only 4 months old.
