Week 1 - American Toad

On the occasion of Quebec’s National Holiday, the Ecomuseum Zoo invites you to make your best croak heard in celebration of local frogs!

Original, fun, and full of purpose, the very first National Frog Call Contest offers a playful dive into the fascinating world of Quebec’s amphibians.

Online starting June 2, imitate the calls of three iconic local species and post your video in comments on our dedicated Facebook post.

On site, at the zoo, from June 23 to 24, lend your voice to the frogs at our special National Holiday frog booth!

And for budding artists, a drawing contest invites you to illustrate the frogs we need to protect.

A festive and educational way to discover Québec’s native species while highlighting our ongoing commitment to local wildlife.

NATIONAL FROG CALL CONTEST

Each week, a different Québec frog species will be featured. The public is invited to imitate its call and post a video or audio clip in the comments of our Facebook posts.

  • Week 3 (June 16–22): Spring peeper — the iconic sound of late spring evenings

Participant instructions:

  • Post your imitation (solo, duo or as a family) in the comments
  • Share the challenge with your friends

Winner selection:

  • At the end of the contest (June 22–23), a jury of Ecomuseum Zoo frog experts will choose the overall Best Frog Call Imitator in Quebec from among the 9 weekly winners. The Mayor of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue will also award a “Frog Favorite” prize.
  • On June 24, the winners will be announced at the Zoo (3 p.m. on the terrace) and on social media. Prizes will be handed out on site if the winners are present.

Prizes for the National Frog Call Contest winners:

  • Grand Prize (Jury selection): An Exclusive Wilderness Immersion activity including the Close-Up Animal Encounter package — featuring a frog! — plus a prize from the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
  • Frog Favorite Prize: A family pass (2 adults + 2 children) to the Ecomuseum Zoo and a $75 gift card, plus a prize from the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

On-site Frog Call Pod - National Holiday activity at the Zoo:

From June 23 and 24, 2025, for Québec’s National Holiday, the Ecomuseum Zoo invites you to a special Frog Call Pod to celebrate local wildlife through sound and fun!

How it works:

  • Listen to two Québec amphibian calls with the help of our naturalist guide at the educational pod
  • Frogs to imitate on-site: Easy: Northern leopard frog — a chuckling, groaning call // Expert: Gray Tree Frog — a fast, vibrating trill
  • Choose your frog and try your best imitation in front of our guide!
  • All participants will be entered in a random prize draw among all our junior "croakers"

DRAWING CONTEST: “HELP A FROG FROM QUÉBEC”

Three age categories: 3–5, 6–10, 11–15
